Patch 8.4 when live today for the NA server. Full patch notes are available here.

    General Highlights:

    • New tanks: British TDs, 3 German Lights, Soviet T6 premium TD
    • Dragon Ridge and Serene Coast removed from random battles (hallelujah)
    • Fixes for the following maps: Cliff, Prokhorovka, Abbey and Ruinberg
    • Reworked the following maps: Steppes, Fisherman's Bay, Ensk, Live Oaks
    • Fixed the failure of "10 calibers rule" for internal ricochets (will discuss at the bottom)

I liked the changes to Steppes and Ensk on my first passes, but FB and LO haven't had much done to them besides graphics updates so there isn't much to talk about there. I'm somewhat disappointed with the "fixes" for Ruinberg. From what I understood they were intending to smooth our the roads and craters, but they're still ridiculously tall/deep and absolutely ruin firing lanes.

    Balance/Fix Highlights:

    • Tanks with auto loader system will reload the whole cassette/drum instead of one shell when the “Intuition” skill is triggered.
    • The FPS rate in hangar is forcibly limited to 60 FPS (idling in the garage no longer maxes out your GPU)
    • Returned the option to train crew members for tanks missing in the hangar. A separate warning window has been added for this purpose
    • Added a windowed full-screen option (maximize button in the right top corner)
    • Fixed most cases causing the game client crash during the loading of a battle when  Alt +Tabbed out of the game
    • Fixed several graphical issues that would reduce FPS
    • Fixed the omission of damage randomization with HE shells when hitting the ground near a tank (Haven't found out the details of this, but I noticed artillery did a lot of damage while splashing lately)
    • Implemented new function of loading the necessary shell type within the countdown before the battle start
    • Fixed the failure of "10 calibers rule" for internal ricochets

It's hard to say exactly what this has fixed due to the wording, but from my understanding the "10 caliber rule" means that when a shot penetrates it travels 10 times its caliber in length into the target. This mechanic malfunctioning would be the most likely cause of the god forsaken zero damage penetrations that occur so frequently. Now this wouldn't mean that every penetration will do damage as spaced armor and modules can still stop them, but it should be much less likely now that those shells aren't bugging out and vanishing too early. If my assumption here is correct then this is a huge, huge, HUGE fix for those of us who have been playing long enough to remember what reliable damage was like.

    Vehicle Highlights:

    • WZ-132: Reload time for the 100mm 59-100T nerfed from 8.6s to 9.1s (.5s added)
    • AMX M4 1945: Depression buffed on all guns by 5 degrees
    • M4A2E4 Sherman: Depression of M3 L/37 gun nerfed by 5 degrees; elevation nerfed by 5 degrees
    • T57: elevation of T179 gun nerfed from -15 to -12 degrees (3 degree change)

I'm shocked that the T57 wasn't hit harder than a 3 degree elevation adjustment. It's by far the most confusingly balanced tank at Tier 10, especially considering the current balance of the AMX 50B and the fact that it was heavily nerfed despite never having been as good as the T57 is right now.

  • Patch 8.3 Breakdown

    • By nagatron 1/17/2013 9:19:23 PM

As we all know patch 8.3 came out today and brought with it the expansion of the Chinese Tank Tree. Each segment will have a summary, but you can expand the spoilers to see the exact details of each change reordered by tier and highlighted for importance.

    General Changes

    • Basic user interface fixes
    • Addition of Chinese tanks.
    • Splash radius for HE shells has been adjusted with an increase to small calibers and a decrease to large calibers. Most medium caliber shells have been left as they were.
    • Lots of artillery tweaks. Lowered hitpoints, longer aim times and slightly better average mobility seems to be the trend.

I'm a fan of the lower HP for all artillery in particular. I've always felt that artillery should be a 1 shot to the average gun from its tier. These changes will alleviate the problem a lot of people face when they have to go 1v1 against an entrenched arty to win a battle. All too often the attacker's round will drift and pen for 0 damage which can mean that the artillery gets two shots back. Considering that most of these vehicles are absolutely packed full of crew and ammunition I feel this is more than fair.

    • Added the new Chinese tanks tech tree (17 light, medium, and heavy tanks)
    • The tier I light tank Renault NC-31 is added with a slot
    • Fixed tank model errors: T57, T28, AMX 13 75, Grille, M10 Wolverine, T25/2, Valentine GB, AC Mle 1946, SU 100Y, AT-15A, IS, TOG-2, Churchill I, Object 263, IS-2, T30, and KV-5
    • Fixed armoring discrepancies: T82, Object 261, M22 Locust, Pz III/IV, VK 4502 P, and Т69
    • Fixed camouflage cost for Type 62 and SU100 Y
    • Changed HE explosion splash radius: slightly increased for small calibers, practically no changes to medium calibers, and decreased for large calibers. Changes to medium calibers can be found in the vehicle changes section of the update notes.
    • Added new loading screens featuring Chinese tanks
    • Fixed incorrect visualization of permitted vehicle tiers for participation in junior and medium tank companies
    • Fixed some minor errors in the battle results screen
    • Fixed the description of the "Confederate" achievement
    • The criteria for crediting the "Spartan" commemorative has been brought into accordance to its description
    • Fixed font quality in some places of the interface
    • Fixed the system name of the ban at the login screen
    • Fixed surname duplicates in the personal data of French tankers
    • Removed from the store the turrets for TD/SPGs which have no turrets
    • Fixed the visualization errors of vehicles track traces

Last week we saw Frontal Assault fiercely defend their crown from challengers War&Peace. Learning from their past weeks exhausting challenge to wrestle victory from Havok, Frontal Assault switch their line ups and adapted strategies for some aggressive 50 100 play. War&Peace’s British experiments with the Caern and loose play end up costing them greatly as Frontal Assault knocks them out across two flawless rounds.

We kick off week 5 of Curse’s King of the Hill series for World of Tanks with current crown holder Frontal Assault Guerrillas, holding a two week streak, battling it out with tournament vets S.I.M.P. Can S.I.M.P. overcome their recent roster changes and prove they are the dominating power once again? Join Nagatron and me tomorrow (Tuesday 12th) at 9EST and find out!

Good morning everyone, We're preparing to launch day 3 of the WoTpro North American Invitational stream! We'll be starting off today at 11AM PST with Lord_Farquad, Relics and myself (nagatron) playing platoons to satiate your desire for tank action until we cast the semi-finals of Banned Angels vs Wreak Havok at 1PM PST. The winner of that match will advance to face FORGEt the Basics in the grand finals at 2PM PST. Check out the bracket here if you miss any of the action.

Yesterday proved that this tournament is going to be absolutely chock full of adrenaline and nail biting finishes. Twice, games came down to the very last moment and I think we can all agree it just doesn't get any better than that! Check out the live updating bracket here, if you miss any of the action and want to catch up on the results. Don't forget to head over to our facebook group for the chance to win Wargaming/Curse loot and to give feedback on how everything is going.
